Clitheroe - My New Base!

After living in Clitheroe for over a year, I can easily say one of its main selling points is its views. I run (rather sporadically) and it is always worth the sweat and shin splints when you see a cracking view like this!

The hill you can see in the distance is Longridge Fell, and beyond that is the beginning of the Forest of Bowland. Fortunately, Clitheroe is located right on the edge of these stunning fells and so provides a super easy base to explore them from.

Directly to the south of Clitheroe, you will find Pendle Hill. Which is hiding nicely behind this cow...

Both of these photos were taken from my normal run route, so you can see the pretty cool incentive I have to drag myself out of the house!

I was brought up in the flat lands of North Yorkshire (yes, there is such a place) and so it has become a real treat to now live in a valley, surrounded by rolling fells. Every day I see a new landscape that I feel like I need to photograph and share (hence this blog!).

Running has really helped to force me to get out, into the countryside, and explore Lancashire.

Well, sort of.

I mean, I have explored the running routes directly around Clitheroe. And once I ventured over to Stonyhurst College and ran cross-country up Longridge Fell, managing to get thoroughly lost and VERY muddy. However, it was worth it for the views...

And so another reason for starting this blog is to kick myself into gear and get out running again! With scenery like this, there is really no excuse.

There is much more to Clitheroe apart from these spectacular views, but I'll save that for another day...

Blog writing begins!

So, where to begin?!

I think to give this blog some context, I first need to explain that I moved to Lancashire just over a year ago to begin a graduate job. This past year has seriously flown by, and everyday I am treated to some pretty spectacular scenery, which I now want to share with you!

I live between Pendle Hill and the Forest of Bowland, which I guess is technically north Lancashire. It is idyllic countryside and fairly unexplored by British tourists (unlike the neighbouring Lakes and Yorkshire Dales) - which is a huge plus.

With this blog I hope to share all the sights I have discovered over the past 12 months and all of the new ones I have yet to see.

Interspersed with Lancashire posts, I will also bring you along to my home town in North Yorkshire, where you will find me every other weekend visiting family and friends.

So, there we go!

Now I just need to start writing...

:)
